Inimitable Jeeves, The

‘Richard Briers and Michael Hordern… sensational in the main roles.’ — Time Out

Typical. Just when Bertie thinks that God’s in his heaven and all’s right with the world, things start to go wrong again…

There’s young Bingo Little, who’s in love for the umpteenth time and needs Bertie to put in a good word for him with his uncle; Aunt Agatha, who forces Bertie to get engaged to the formidable Honoria Glossop; and the troublesome twins, Claude and Eustace, whose antics when let loose in London know no bounds.

Add to that some friction in the Wooster home over a red cummerbund, purple socks and some snazzy old Etonian spats, and poor Bertie’s really in the soup…

Only one man can save the day - the inimitable Jeeves.

The perfect pairing of Michael Hordern as Jeeves and Richard Briers as Bertie ensures constant hilarity in this full-cast radio dramatisation that also includes David Jason, Pat Coombs and Miriam Margolyes.

Carry On, Jeeves!

Young Bertie Wooster needed help in life. His affairs were in a complete mess. When Jeeves, the incomparable manservant, offers his services as valet, Bertie takes him on. Soon Jeeves has everything running smoothly—even Bertie himself.

At his best, Jeeves miraculously keeps Bertie and his helpless friends in the good graces of their rich uncles. He deals knowingly with attractive, lovelorn young ladies, patching up their affairs of the heart just the way he thinks they should be mended.

Carry On, Jeeves! is inspired comedy that will delight everyone who loves to laugh.

Jeeves: Joy in the Morning

Monday, May 12th, 2008 by Book Guy | No Comments »

A BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation starring Michael Hordern as Jeeves and Richard Briers as Wooster

Richard Briers and Michael Hordern… sensational in the main roles Time Out

Steeple Bumphleigh is the sort of picturesque place where you can’t throw a brick without hitting a honeysuckled cottage or beaning an apple-cheeked villager. But for Bertie Wooster, it is a place to be avoided, containing (as it does) not only the appalling Aunt Agatha but also her husband, the terrifying Lord Worplesdon.

So when a certain amount of familial arm-twisting is applied, Bertie heads for the sticks in fear and trepidation despite the support of the irreplaceable Jeeves.

Still, there are good deeds to be done, like extricating ‘Stilton’ Cheesewright from the clutches of Florence Craye, a girl from whom Bertie himself only escaped by the slimmest of cat’s whiskers.

But even Bertie is hideously unaware of the perils which lie in wait before the (accidentally) happiest of endings.
